MIKA SNICKARS KONG DISCO EP BP07
MARC DAVIS AND HIS LABEL BLACK PEGASUS CHANGES CHANNELS FOR IT'S LATEST VINYL RELEASE. BP701 IS NOT A HOLY GRAIL HIP HOP GEM BUT RATHER AN OBSCURE DISCO FUNK MONSTER!!!
TO FULLY UNDERSTAND THIS RELEASE YOU HAVE TO KNOW THE STORY THAT ACOMPANIES THIS RECORD.
THE STORY DOESN'T BEGIN IN CHICAGO, NEW YORK OR EVEN THE UNITED STATES. IT BEGINS IN SCANDINAVIA, EUROPE, MORE SPECIFICALLY STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN.
Stockholm, the city known for great Swedish meatballs, beautiful women, classic architecture and Mika Snickars!! Mika Snickars, the all star vinyl collector, DMC Champion, producer, re-editing king and owner of Snickars Records vinyl shop!! For years Mika has been selling vinyl records of hip hop, disco, rare groove, break beats, jazz fusion, techno, and house to mostly everyone who is a player in the vinyl music game. He has sold records to everyone from Biz Markie, DJ Harvey, Cut Chemist & DJ Numark (Jurassic 5), DJ Shadow, Daniel Wang, Danny Krivit, Theo Parrish, and Sadar Bahar to name a few.
Mika's humbleness and DJ skills speaks volumes throughout Sweden, Scandinavia and to vinyl collectors world wide.
In 2010 Mika was digging for records in the Reykjavik,Iceland and discovered two very dusted, rare Styrene 7 inch acetates. They both hadn't been played very much and weren't dance floor friendly and still had an audio life line before they were to become some ones drink coasters.
Mika took them home to his lab and flipped two re-edits smoother then rice and beans!! His old school tape cut and paste takes it to the Walter Gibbons days when DJ's tested there rare mixes directly on the dance floors! Testing it for the dance floors is what Mika sought out to do by pressing up three acetates at Timmion's studio in Helsinki Finland.
These three acetates gained a cult audience buzz amongst underground disco and rare groove collectors, DJ's and non wall flower people on the dance floor!! It became an anthem at Stockholm's underground disco & House party the LightHouse by resident DJ, Julian Wareing.
In 2012 while Black Pegasus' Marc Davis was on a DJ tour in Stockholm, Mika played the acetate for him and they decided to release it on the Black Pegasus imprint when the time was correct.
In the summer of this year; 2014, four white label test presses had been pressed up of the Kong Disco EP and one copy given to Chicago legend Sadar Bahar for his European/Japanese tour.
In July 2014 Sadar debuted the Kong Disco track at Giles Peterson's incredible World Wide Festival in Sete, France in front of more then 10,000 lovers of great music!! You can see the organic energy from the dancers hearing the hypnotic piano soul grove track and
you realize this tune is something special!! From Sete France to Osaka Japan Sadar continued playing "Kong Disco" and the B-side Disco Monster "What Goes Around" and emails continued to pour in from disco nerds, DJ's and record shop buyers about when is the record officially dropping and when can they purchase!!
Well Here it is the official yellow vinyl release limited to 200 copies!!

ReplyDeleteany chance of mp3 version? or even a low quality youtube upload?! cant keep chasing sadar around Europe (worldwide and plastic people so far!) to hear this tune!!
ReplyDeleteYou should purchase a copy from either HHV, BCR, or Vinylisim. I'm out of copies and I don't do MPFrees!! I suggest you move swiftly before they are sold out as well!
ReplyDeleteahh... what about the simple guy who doesn't have turntables, isn't a dj, but just needs to hear this tune?!
ReplyDeleteI feel you but the "simple guy" who doesn't have turntables is not the targeted demographic! This is music for those in the know and on the cutting edge! Purchase some turntables or your gonna miss the boat with the next batch of gems set to drop!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the support!
